The Nigerian Community (WF) is a child of necessity
created out of a seemingly simple ideology - To address the growing
level of disillusionment among individual Nigerian residents in
the Borough which has, infested in to a general lack of cohesiveness
and leadership within the community. The end result being, the increasing
rate of apathy and antisocial behaviour that has become pervasive
among children and young people in the aforementioned borough.
Research revealed that Nigerians were
first noted to have come to live in this part of the capital
since the year 1891. Until the formation of NICOWF in March
2000 and subsequent registration with the Charity Commission in 2002,
there have never been a body or organisation that was directly
involved in dealing with their needs and aspirations at both local
and national level respectively in the political arena. The pioneering
fathers of Nigerian Community(WF) in their wisdom, deliberated to
rectify this awful situation. Their vision is that Nigerians in the
borough will have access to a One
Stop source of Information, Advice, Guidance and support
on issues that affect them personally and as a community.
The Nigerian Community (WF) is a body with an aim to alleviate sufferings
of isolated and dejected poor members of the community.
These people, Nigerians among them, include the elderly
whose needs are conspicuously overlooked. They (for one reason or
another) are not willing to seek help even when they are ill. Other
groups including children who are finding transition to adulthood
difficult and therefore need help closer to home or training for
example in cultural education. To fulfil these roles, there is a
need for an easy accessible drop in place for information and advice
to these excluded individuals in our midst. It is our ambition to
bring these goals to fruition in the shortest possible time. We hope
you join us in our endeavours.
